Novaco employ alternative digital technologies to distribute products and services over-the-air. Data can be sent directly to ships by email, satellite broadcast or FTP connection.
The Novaco Broadcast Service was borne out of the belief that satellite broadcasting remains the most cost effective way of transporting large volumes of data from shore to ships.
Data is currently broadcast from geostationary satellites operating at 21°E and 105°E. Repeat broadcasts and substantial coverage ensure that there is ample opportunity to receive all required updates over the air. Each weekly edition of Admiralty NMs is broadcast 28 times over a period of 8 weeks.
Plans to deploy the services of an orbiting satellite are well underway and should very soon augment Novaco's delivery capability further.
For those with fixed price communication deals Novaco can provide updates using the convenience of email or ftp download. Updates by email provide maximum flexibility for the user. This does not require any special hardware and allows you to receive your updates on a different PC to the one you are going to use them on.
Growing availability of broadband packages has made the transfer of modestly sized files feasible. Additionally, Novaco’s highly compressed datasets preserve bandwidth and increase transfer speed. Novaco’s weekly updates can be as little as 200kb.
For those with direct connectivity to the internet Novaco offers the option of ftp downloads for maximum flexibility.
