Novaco distribute Admiralty Notices to Mariners in PDF format under license from the UKHO (License Number HO 2207/071210/01). PDF copies may be printed and used on board in the same way other printed copies delivered by physical transport are used. Printed copies fully meet the requirements of Regulation 19.2.1.4 of SOLAS Chapter V.

A number of maritime administrations permit the use of digital publications (PDF) as equivalent to their paper versions. The National Maritime Authorities of Liberia, Germany, Finland, Denmark and The Netherlands are prime examples. Maritime authorities expect that certain bridge procedures are in place to ensure easy access to information. Equally, care should be taken with periodic back-ups.

Some maritime administrations have granted specific approvals for the Novaco service and include the Maritime and Coastguard Agency of the UK, the Isle of Man Ship Registry and the Gibraltar Maritime Administration.

Hardware

The Novaco receiver conforms to CE standards according to Directive 89/336/EEC on Electromagnetic Compatibility and standards  EN:55013:2001, EN:55020:2002. The receiver also conforms to FCC Part 15, subpart B, Class B Digital Devices.
